통일 문학교육으로서 탈북자 소설 교육 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 탈북자 소설을 대상으로 하여 범교과 교육으로서 통일 문학교육을 설계하는 것을 목표로 한다. 그간 통일 문학교육은 분과 체제의 제재 교육 형태로 이루어져왔으나, 범교과 교육으로서 통일 문학교육의 다기한 측면을 다루기에는 한계가 있었다. 개별 교과의 논리로 전유했을 때 문학사적 가치가 큰 작품 이해에 중점을 둘 수 있지만 개별 교과의 경계를 넘어선 사회적 요구를 실천적으로 다루기는 어렵기 때문이다. 이에 이 연구는 언어 중심의 융합 교육을 경로로 하여 통일 문학교육을 재정립하고, 탈북자 소설을 제재로 삼아 그 내용을 분석하여 교육적 방안을 마련하고자 한다. 범교과 교육은 단일 교과 영역으로 해결할 수 없는 현대 사회의 문제를 여러 교과의 협력 속에 두고자 하는 일종의 주제 교육이다. 분단 이후 70여 년이 흐르며 남북한의 이질성이 커진 한편 다문화 사회로 이행 중인 남한의 상황, 통일 주체들의 변화, 국제 정세 등이 얽힌 현실 속에서 통일 문제는 보다 복잡하고 깊어진 양상을 보이곤 한다. 이처럼 다방면에 걸친 통일 교육은 융합 교육적 접근을 촉구한다. 융합 교육은 근대 학문의 분절적 체계를 비판하며 등장한 학제 간 연구를 교육 담론으로 들여온 것으로, 필히 여러 교과의 협력이 요청되는 범교과 교육의 경로가 될 수 있는 것이다. 본 연구는 이처럼 여러 교과의 통섭적인 논의에 주목하는 융합 교육을 내세우되 국어과의 특성을 살린 언어 중심의 융합 교육으로 통일 문학교육을 탐색하고자 했다. 융합 교육으로서 인접 교과의 통일 교육을 살폈을 때, 낙관적이기보다 현실적·미래지향적인 다문화적 방향을 취하고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 한편 국어과의 언어성은 크게 기본교과와 개별교과로서 문학교육 두 측면에서 살필 수 있는데, 전자가 상황에 대한 구체적이고 명료한 인식을 바탕으로 한다면 후자는 문학적 상상력을 동반하여 인간의 삶에 주목하고 이에 해결 방안을 모색하는 것까지 의미한다. 사람의 통일을 지향하는 다문화적 통일로 나아가는 오늘날, 개별 인간들의 삶에 주목하고자 하는 언어 중심의 융합교육으로서 통일 문학교육의 정의를 확인할 수 있는 바다. 탈북자 소설은 위와 같은 통일 문학교육의 측면에 부합하는 제재라 할 수 있다. 1990년대 중반 이후 급증한 탈북자는 남북한 두 체제를 모두 경험한 존재로 통일 한국 사회의 양상을 살피게 하는 실험적 존재이기도 하다. 탈북자 소설은 이러한 탈북자를 다룬 소설을 통칭할 수 있으나, 이 연구가 목표로 하는 통일 문학교육의 측면에서 유의미한 탈북자 소설을 남북한 주민들의 만남을 사유하게 하는 소설로 상정하였다. 탈북자 소설을 분석하는 관점은 탈식민주의 이론에 의거하여 비판점과 지향점, 곧 대극적인 지점을 내세워 설정하였다. 이에 인물 형상화는 정형성과 복수성으로, 인물들의 관계는 억압·배제와 환대로, 인물들이 살아가는 공간은 균질성과 혼종성으로 살폈다. 이러한 틀을 기반으로 분석한 탈북자 소설은 정형성을 넘어 주체성으로 향하는 인물 형상화, 고립과 타자화를 넘어 연대로서 만남, 균질적 공간을 넘어 혼종적 공간에 주목하게 한다. 이들은 남한 사회의 탈북자를 향한 편견과 배제를 비판적으로 보여주는 한편 탈북자들의 주체적 면모와 남한 주민들과 조화롭게 살아가는 탈북자들의 모습까지 핍진하게 보여줌으로써 오늘날 통일 문학교육이 나아가야 할 점을 시사한다. 이상에서 논의한 바를 바탕으로 통일 문학교육으로서 탈북자 소설 교육을 설계하고자 교육 목표를 제시하였다. 또한 이에 도달하기 위한 교육 내용과 방안은 학습자들의 감상문 양상을 함께 살핌으로써 현장 교육과의 관련성을 도모하였다. 그 교육 내용은 탈북자를 통해 본 북한 주민에 대한 공감적 이해, 북한 주민과의 연대로서 만남의 태도 모색, 통일 한국 사회에 대한 미래지향적 상상으로, 구체적인 교육 방법으로는 비판적 검토를 통한 편견 점검, 상호문화적 독법을 통한 타 교과 내용과의 접목, 사례 탐구를 바탕으로 한 소설 창작, 토론 활동을 통한 문제 해결 방안 모색으로 제시할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 개별 교과의 논리에서 벗어나 언어 중심의 융합 교육으로서 통일 문학교육을 재정립하고 탈북자 소설이라는 통일 문학교육의 새로운 제재를 발굴했다는 점, 나아가 시대적 요구를 바탕으로 한 범교과 교육의 특성을 살려 오늘날의 통일 담론과 밀접한 통일 문학교육의 방향을 제시했다는 의의가 있다.

This study aims to devise a plan for unified literature education for North Korean defectors' novels. In the meantime, unification literature education has been in the form of sanctions education under the sub-system, but as a pan-text education, there was a limit to dealing with the multifaceted aspects of unification literature education. This is because it is difficult to deal with social demands that go beyond the boundaries of individual subjects, although it can focus on understanding works with great literary and historical values when transferred to the logic of individual classes. Therefore, this study aims to redefine unified literature education based on language-oriented convergence education, and to prepare educational measures by analyzing the contents of North Korean defectors' novels as sanctions. Pan-textual education is a kind of subject education that aims to put the problems of modern society, which cannot be solved with a single curriculum, in cooperation with various subjects. More than 70 years have passed since the division of the Korean Peninsula, and the unification issue has become more complicated and deeper amid the intertwined reality of the situation in South Korea, changes in unification agents and international affairs that are being implemented as a multicultural society. This multi-faceted unification education calls for a converged educational approach. Convergence education is the introduction of interdisciplinary research into educational discourse, which has emerged criticizing the divisional system of modern learning, and can be the route of pan-text education, in which cooperation with various schools is requested. This study aims to explore a new unified literature education with language-oriented convergence education that focuses on the common discussions of various subjects, but takes advantage of the characteristics of the Korean language department. When we looked at the unification education of neighboring schools as a convergence education, we could see that they were moving toward a multicultural direction that was more realistic and future-oriented than optimistic. On the other hand, the linguistic characteristics of the Korean language department can be largely examined in both basic and individual subjects, and if the former is based on a specific and clear perception of the situation, the latter means to pay attention to individual human lives with literary imagination and seek solutions to it. It is a language-oriented convergence education that aims to focus on the lives of individual human beings as it moves toward multicultural unification. The North Korean defector novel is a sanction that conforms to the above aspects of unification education. The number of North Korean defectors, which has soared since the mid-1990s, has experienced both South and North Korean systems, and is also an experimental figure that examines the aspects of a unified Korean society. While the novels dealing with North Korean defectors can be collectively referred to as novels dealing with such defectors, the North Korean defector novel, which is significant in terms of the unified literature education, was proposed as 'a novel that causes the people of South and North Korea to meet.' The point of view of analyzing North Korean defector novels was set up based on the theory of post-colonialism, with the emphasis on criticism and orientation, or the point of grand drama. Thus, character portraits were characterized by stereotypicality and complicated character, and the relationship between characters was oppression, exclusion and hospitality, and the space where the characters lived was examined by homogeneity and hybridity. Based on such a framework, the North Korean defector's novels lead to a person heading for self-reliance beyond stereotypes, a relationship beyond isolation and typography as solidarity, and a transition from homogeneous space to hybrid space. They are critical of the prejudice and exclusion of North Korean defectors in South Korean society, while also showing the self-reliance of North Korean defectors and the lack of North Korean defectors living in harmony with South Koreans, suggesting that unification education should move forward today. Based on the above discussion, the purpose of education was to design 'education of North Korean defectors' novels as unification literature education'. In addition, the contents and methods of education to reach this goal were reviewed together to promote the relevance of on-site education. The contents of the education were "sympathetic understanding of North Koreans through defectors," "seeking an attitude of meeting with North Koreans" and "future-oriented imagination of unified Korean society," and "checking prejudices through non-judgmental reviews," "combining with other subjects through mutual cultural self-righteousness," "creating novels based on case studies," and "finding solutions to problems through discussion activities." The research is meaningful in that it has redefined unification literature education as a language-oriented convergence education, and discovered new sanctions on unification literature education called novels by North Korean defectors, and further suggested a close direction to the current discourse on unification by taking advantage of the characteristics of pan-text education based on the needs of the times.
