Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Gurney flap on radial fan performance. Gurney flaps of 1%, 2%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 10% of blade chord length and 30°, 45°,60°, and 90° of mounting angles were investigated experimentally in this research. The radial fan with Gurney flap produced higher work coefficient than the baseline radial fan. As the Gurney flap height increases work coefficient also increases. Gurney flap of mounting angle 30° and 45° show higher work coefficient than 60° and 90°. All Gurney flaps produced higher static-to-static efficiency than the baseline case. The radial fan of h/c = 5% with 30° shows the highest maximum static-to-static efficiency with 9% increase compared to baseline fan. Gurney flaps with constant blade tip diameter were also investigated in this study. θ = 30° and 45° with h/c = 5% are selected because this two cases show the highest maximum static-to-static efficiency. The static-to-static efficiency of θ = 30° Gurney flap is higher than θ = 45° at the maximum point.
