도서관 정책에 따른 공공도서관의 열람공간 변화연구

Abstract

인류의 기술적 진보와 함께 발전된 인쇄술과 과학기술은 지식을 보관하고 전달하기 위해 건립되었던 도서관에게 매번 새로운 모습을 요구하고 있다. 특히 오늘날 현대 도서의 열람방식은 지식을 얻기 위해 직접 도서관을 방문해야 했던 열람방식에서 진보된 기술을 활용해 장소적 한계를 극복한 다양한 방식으로 진화하고 있다. 그럼에 따라 최근의 도서관은 단순히 도서를 직접 열람하기 위한 공간을 넘어 사람을 모으고 연결하는 복합적 사회 네트워크 기능을 내포한 복합공간으로 변모하고 있다. 2019년 대한민국 정부는 제3차 도서관 발전 종합계획을 통해 국민에게 더욱 열린 공공도서관을 건립하기 위한 국가정책을 마련하였다. 그러나 정부가 예상한 정책의도와 달리 국내 공공도서관의 연간 방문객 수는 줄어들고 있다. 국내 통계청에서 제공하고 있는 도서관의 방문객 수는 2009년까지 지속적으로 증가했지만, 2013년부터 지금까지 꾸준히 감소하는 추세임을 확인할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 정부가 내세운 열린 공간으로서, 미래의 지식전달 매개체로서 공공도서관의 역할과 의의를 살펴보기 위해 지금까지 나타난 공공도서관의 공간구성을 분석해볼 필요가 있다고 판단했다. 따라서 본 연구의 목표는 공공도서관의 공간을 분석하여 열린 장소로서의 공공도서관의 의의를 판단해보는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 특히 공공도서관의 주된 기능을 담당하는 열람공간의 공간분석을 수행한다. 이를 위해 우선 도서관에 관한 선행연구 조사 및 직접방문을 진행했다. 도서관에 관한 선행연구로는 2000년 이후 연구를 중심으로 하여 공공도서관에 관한 최근 연구 동향을 살펴보았다. 이후 국내 공공도서관의 공간분석을 위한 기초자료를 마련하기 위해 도서관을 직접 방문하여 도면 및 사진 자료를 획득하고 인터넷포털 사이트의 거리뷰 서비스를 활용해 자료를 추가 보완하였다.

This study aims to prepare basic data to judge the openness of public libraries as open places according to their place meaning. Today, as public libraries overcome their place limitations through various media, it has become complex space for a social function that gathers and connects people, not just a place to acquire knowledge. As the spatial composition of public libraries become complex and space focusing user, the reading methods are diversified, and various reading space for this are appearing. Therefore, as public libraries programs become more diverse, this study analyzes the reading space of user-centred public libraries and aims to examine public libraries as open places through objective data.

To conduct a systematic study, this study was conducted in the following order. First, this study conducts theoretical considerations about the spatial composition of public libraries that have been built from the past to the present. The spatial characteristics of public libraries, which appeared in the modern era of Korea up to today, were observed along with national policies. In addition, it is necessary to understand the social background related to the establishment of public libraries today by investigating the institutional changes that have affected public libraries space. Second, the direction of spatial analysis was organized to analyze the spatial structure of public libraries. To do this, the aspect and composition of unit organizations are identified to understand the spatial organization characteristics of public libraries. And, to observe the extent to which users recognize the public library space, the visible area of the space is identified in terms of spatial topology. Also, understand the significance of the set analysis tool for spatial analysis and understand the influence it has on openness. In the theoretical study stage, it is necessary to identify the meaning of the set analysis tool for spatial analysis and its influence on openness. Third, in order to conduct objective spatial analysis, a quantitative analysis method is introduced to establish an objective analysis framework. The case of the public libraries selected for study is analyzed with the analysis tool to find the spatial characteristics and analyze the quantified figures. By analyzing the data obtained through spatial analysis, this chapter examines the role of public libraries. To this end, J-Graph(Justified Graph) and V.G.A(Visual Graph Analysis) are used to calculate data on spatial depth, accessibility, visual integration, and visible area of the reading space in public libraries. Forth, Based on the results quantified through analysis tools, this study examines the chronological characteristics and change of public libraries and identifies the characteristics of the spatial structure by period by synthesizing the patterns of spatial change and the calculated graphs. The characteristics derived serve as data to judge the openness of public libraries. Furthermore, it will be basic data to guess the planning direction of the spatial structure of the next-generation public libraries. Fifth, the data combining the results obtained through the analysis tool will judge the spatial and social meaning of public libraries as open spaces and seek the direction of public libraries to move forward.
