Abstract

The Porter model of generic strategies is a significant contribution to the academic area of business strategy and its practical application. However, this model has a serious problem because it treats generic strategies as contradictory with each other. In addition, the Porter model is not satisfactory to explain the evolution of strategic change. This paper solves these problems and develops total global strategies by integrating other global strategies such as shelter strategy and cooperative strategy. The new model of this paper will help understand a variety of strategic choices by multinational firms.
