- Abstract
- Due to recent development of solid-phase organic synthesis and micro
techniques with beads, the need for micron-size core-shell type resin
with a narrow size distribution is demanding. Monodisperse and porous
core-shell type resins with a highly cross-linked polystyrene core and a
poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) shell were prepared by seeded emulsion
polymerization. For this, a new PEG-macromonomer which has long alkyl chain was
prepared from 2-chlorotrityl chloride resins as a polymerizable
surfactant and a stabilizer in order to get monodispersed and porous
resins in the seeded emulsion polymerization system. The new resin
was prepared by co-polymerization of styrene and a polymerizable PEG
macromer, mono-N-methacryloyl- aminoundecanoyl Jeffamine 500. The
new resins have all of the functional groups at the outer shell of the
bead. The new resins are monodispersed beads with ca. 17㎛ in
diameter. The resins were characterized by SEM, BET, Size
Distribution Analyzer, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope.
