Abstract
The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to determine the current status of the physical education curriculum (activity area only) in primary and secondary schools, and (2) to investigate the difference among the physical education curriculum of the United States, Japan, and Korea. On the basis of the study, the following conclusions are made: 1. The contents and sequence of instruction are unbalanced. 2. In each school grade, the contents of instruction highly overlap and are too long. 3. In each grade, the objectives of instruction are too high for the students to attain. 4. Individual and recreational activities are not offered. 5. Limited rhythmic activities are offered only for boys. 6. In each grade, the scope and selection of activities are inadequate. 7. Too many kinds of activities are offered, during a limited number of class hours of physical education. 8. Technical and vocational schools allot little time for physical education.
