Abstract
The tasks performed and the claims made in this paper can be summarized as below: (a) The methodology adopted in the systematization of Foundationism is illustrated. (b) The fundamental motivation for naming, advocating and systematizing Foundationism as a new philosophy of education is lying in the requirements of the times at home and abroad. (c) The purpose of this paper is to provide the methodology for further study. (d) An illustration is made on the academic motivation for naming Foundationism in 1957 and on the theoretical development of Foundationism with reference to major works published so far. And then the favorable responses from scholars of philosophy of education of Korea and other countries are shown in five respects. (e) Under the head of The Universe of the Theory and Practice of Foundationism', a diagram illustrating Foundationism from the methological point of view is presented and then the theoretical foundation of that diagram is provided under the title of Universality and Peculiarity of Pedagogy'. The instruction process of existing philosophy of education is shown and compared with the creation process of Foundationism. Being induced from such a firm theoretical background, the term Foundationism' has no relation with particular region, period, school or religion. (f) Diagrams showing the educational value system of Foundationism are presented. One of the diagrams shows that education is the center of the six value systems, which implies that education has much to do with other research fields.
