- Abstract
- Behavioural responses of planaria (Dugesia japonica) were studied on light, electric and light-electric stimuli. When planaria were treated from 1 to 5 days under the light condition, the velociʇy to escape from light was gradually decreased because of the light habituation. Planaria were trained to receive electric(ES group), light(LS group) and light-electric stimulus (LES group). The LES group was trained by the method that light was on for 3 seconds, during the last second of which the electric stimulus was passed though the water. When the LES groups were trained from 1 to 5 days, a new protein band was shown on the electrophoregram. Molecular weight of this LES learning protein was approximately 75,000 daltons. Especial1y, the LES learning protein band of the LES group for LES group for 2 days was the thickest of LES groups trained from 1 to 5 days. The LES group for 2 days showed 4 behavioural patterns by lightening for 3 seconds when 12 hours passed after training: no"response escape, longitudinal body contraction, head-tail turn and head turn. The LES learning protein band of the behavioural planaria with no -response escape was the thickest among the four behavioural patterns. The decreasing order of thickness was longitudinal body contraction, head-tail turn and head turn. The learning behavioural pattern of no-response escape of planaria was transferred through cannibalism and this planaria had the LES learning protein.
