dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the present study was to analyze the selected problems the current Korean education is faced with and recommend possible solutions to these problems. Five areas of concern were selected: curriculum, instruction, educational environment and facilities, educational administration, and finance. On the basis of the analysis, following recommedations were made: With regard to curriculum, it was recommended that the school curriculum should emphasize development of thinking abilities thereby to enable the students to create knowledge from the existing information, rational and scientific thinking in all subject areas, foreign lauguage education, value education from the human relations point of view, and provision for a wide variety of teaching materials so as to meet the individual needs of the students. As for instruction, it was recommended the problems associated with the over-sized classroom should receive the foremost attention. In addition, provisions for individualized instruction, strengthening teacher education, both pre-service and in-service, and introduction of educational technology, were also recommended. Concerning school environment and facilities, provisions for effective utilization of space were discussed with a special reference to crowded classroom. Modernization and improvement in school facilities commensurate with the national economic growth and improvement in working enviroment and amenities of teachers were given special mention. In regard to educational administration, the necessity for decentralization of power and authority was stressed for autonomous local involvement in educational administration and policy-making. It was also stressed that administrative and policy decisions be made on scientific basis. Enhancement of professional qualification of educational administration personnel was stressed. Finally, concerning the finance, diversification of resources, the rate of increase in education costs from the local government, and effective use of educational budgets and prevention of wastage were recommended. It was also recommended that the first priority in financial input should be made to improvement of educational facilities and environment.-
