This thesis is constructed as· follows: I. Introduction: the. formulation of the philosophical theory of Korean education for today Ⅱ. the Idea of Education 1. the definition of the idea of education 2. the idea of Korean education Ⅲ. the Idea of Kich'ochuii (Foundationism) 1. what is Kichochuii? 2. Conclusion: the structure of Kichochuii (Foundationism) Explaining the idea of education and the educational value system, I empnhasize, first of all, that 'Kichochuii' regarded human cognitive structure as 'sphere'. 'Spherical structure of cognition' is what I want to mention. Fröbel, an educational philosopher, was deeply interested in the 'sphere'. But his concern is only about the spheric crystalloid as a natural phenomena. 'Kichochuii' treat 'sphere' as the principal structure which represents the idea of education and the educational value system. Considering 'Kicho' a core thought in shaping human character, I manifest it in three ideas while talking about past, present and future, or about tradition, subjectivity and reform. That is the idea of time, freedom and order. Now first, Id like to tell you 'the idea of time' is to help us to define the meaning of past, as sort of a historical dimension. Because history is related to time and human life which evolves in restricted time, too. The idea of time not only helps to have the right concept of time but also waken the wisdom of life which can accumulates every vital moment. Second, let me tell you about the idea of freedom'. In chinese expression, the freedom means 'arise from(由) of itself(自)'. When we need to make decision, we think hard to reach the best conclusion. We should be prudent and take the responsibility for our action. Subjectivity is directly related to this idea of freedom, and through out the human history we, human beings, have pursued the freedom until now. Third, 'the idea of order' is connected with 'reform' and 'realization'. 'Order' has two meanings. One is negative and the other positive. Negative order concept means to. obey the laws, customs and systems in our society. On the contrary, positive order concept signifies the new order when the old one is. no more justified by the scholars and society. I proposed six concepts which are divided from each three ideas. It would be right to call it six value area. i.e., culture, life, intelligence, human character, cooperation and service. In conclusion, the structure of philosophical theory of Kichochuii (Foundationism) is as follows: I. Introduction: the significance of Kichochtiii (Foundationism) Ⅱ. the Idea of Education 1. Kicho (Foundation) and education(educational ontology) 2. time, freedom. order(educational exiology) Ⅲ. Educational Human Image 3. a man of historical consciousness..(educational human theory) 4. a man of great love and simplicity(theory of educator) 5. tradition, subjectivity, reform(educational epistemology) Ⅳ. Educational Process 6. inquiry, awareness, realization(educational methodology) 7. theory of creation(educational research methodology) 8. development and integration(theory of educational institution) 9. foundation and historical situation(theory of historical view of education) Ⅴ. Conclusion: character of Kichochuii
