Abstract
In the field of Korean education, creative literary writing has almost been ignored with much misunderstanding. Especially creative fiction writing was excluded in the regular school curriculum. However, such writing is now instructed in many colleges and universities. The purpose of this paper is to theorize creative fiction writing for establishing such writing as a subject of colleges and universities. For this study, it is necessary to reconceptualize the following terms; the subject of creative writing, the techniques of creative writing, and the world view of the author. The structure of creative fiction writing is composed of with the competences of creative writing. It includes the sub competences; competence in finding the world image, figurative competence in relating things and matters, communicative competence in writing. The process of creative writing is overlapped with reading experiences, by which the student-author build his own personality. In the writing process the teacher-author and the student-author coordinate their levels of literary competence; thinking method, techniques, communication, time differences and experiential differences. This paper suggests that creative fiction writing could be taught by the teacher who is not a writer by himself, and that creative writing teachers could help students to be able to creative writers through the method of meta-language. The paper also suggests the necessity of theorizing the creative writing process and its evaluative mechanism for the better instruction of creative writing.
