Abstract
Diurnal acid fluctuation, N0₃⁻ contents, changes of NRA, and soluble protein contents with age were investigated in the stems of Opuntia lanceolata Haw growing under the field condition. Diurnal change of titratable acidity shows typical CAM pattern; maximum value of 109.19 μeq/cm² and minimum value of 6.91μeq/cm². Young stem exibited low CAM as measured by the diurnal changes of titratable acidity. Intermediate aged stems were active in. CAM activity. NRA per cm²·hour was highest in young stem, and decreased with age. But the oldest stem exibited relatively high NRA. N0₃⁻ content in the oldest stem was 100μmole/cm² and gradually decreased in young. It shows translocation of N-component in O. lanceolata is largely as N0₃⁻ form. Chloroph11 content does not correspond to diurnal acid fluctuations, and there is no relation between soluble protein content & NRA.
