Abstract

In the second part of my paper, the noncyclic word-level phonology of English has been treated. The present sequel consists of two parts: rules affecting vowels and those affecting consonants. In the former part, the formulation of five vowel rules (Laxing Rule, Tensing Rule, Diphthongization Rule, Vowel Shift Rule) is discussed, while in the latter part, four consonant rules (Velar Softening Rule, s-Voicing Rule, Spirantization Rule, Palatalization Rule) are discussed.
