Abstract
Many philosophers have criticized that Richard Rorty commits
relativist fallacy or insists on the end of philosophy through the
concept of contingency. Such philosophers, however, wander from the
main points, for they misunderstand Rortys intention. I point out
three facts to strengthen the criticism: (1) Rorty internally commits
relativist fallacy, while he does not commit a simple form of
relativism; (2) Rortys concept of contingency is so vague that
Rorty is sinking deeper into an internal contradiction; and (3)
Rortys concept of philosophy is not general, so anyone who utters
it in general usage can say that Rorty heads toward the end of
philosophy. I suggest, as a result of these facts, that Rorty proceeds
to relativist fallacy and the end of philosophy, not by an analytic
treatment of his theory, but by the problems which the theory itself
has.
