國語의 "통사적인" 空範疇에 대하여

Abstract

This paper assumes that Korean has two types of empty category (=EC); one is of syntactic EC, and the other of stylistic EC. The content of the former category is syntactically determined by its antecedent or the predicate, and that of the latter is stylistically defined by the preceding context. This distinction is not crucial, but serves to restrict the scope of our discussion. According to the LF interpretation in the spirit of Huang (1984) which postulates a zero topic (or operator) binding EC in discourse-related deficient sentences, these two types of EC could be qualified as of the same nature. This means that Huangs solution can be extended to cover the instances of intentional EC that occurs in relation to the speakers presupposition at the moment of utterance.
