Abstract
The rhythmic patterns of Korean words, simple and compound, are not uniform for a11 Korean speakers. They differ from dialect to dialect and sometimes even between different age groups within a dialect. The standard Korean, which is spoken in and around Seoul, exhibits such rhythmic differences in words between different age groups.
The aim of this paper, therefore, is to describe the rhythmic differences between the older generation of over 40 years of age and the younger generation of under 40. It has been found that the speech of the younger generation reveals a very strong tendency to put accent on the second syllable of words by weakening the first and/or third syllable, which are usually strognly stressed in the speech of the older generation.
