It is not easy to decide whether a word is a simple word or a derived one. Even if it is regarded as a derived word, its nature is different from the others according to whether the affixes are productive or not. If the affixes are productive, they tend to be derived words, otherwise they are similar to the nature of simple words. If the roots have structural autonomy, they could be treated as derived words. Korean derivational affixes could also be identified in symbolic adverbs. Furthermore, phonological alternant -i occurring after the consonant-stem of a persons name could also be identified as a derivational suffix. In derivational suffixes, as with inflectional suffixes, common phonetic strings, which do not have meaning, could also be identified as morphemes. In analyzing derived words, both the meaning of roots and the function of affixes should be considered.ko_KR
