Abstract
The purpose of this paper is lo clarify an important similarity between the Korean verbs ha Iit. do' and toy lit. become' in terms of syntactic and semantic features. They are similar lo each other with regard to their pre-elements with which they occur in a sentence.
Suh (1975) analysed the semantic features of the simple pre-elements of ha. Ha is usuanlly preceded by non-substantial nominals and their equivalents except for particular appropriated situtations. The non-substantial nominals are not predicates in morphological forms but may be regarded as having such features of predicates as [+Action], [+Process] or [+Stative] in terms of the semantic structures by W. L. Chafe. For example, such a non-substantial element as wuntong exercise as in (1) is usually followed by ha.
