- Abstract
- In GPSG all agreement and control phenomena are explained together by the single feature instantiation principle, i.e., the Control Agreement Principle, which requires the total identity of feature specifications between the source category and the target one in terms of feature percolation. It has often been pointed out that the case feature clash between the source category and the target one occurred in the missing-object construction like the easy-to-please construction. Hukari & Levine(1987a, b) and Kim(1989) tried to solve t his problem but failed. In this paper we have shown that this problem could be easily solved by the already established framework of GKPS(1985), under the assunmption that the case specification of English is not a member of AGR, hence such specification is excluded from the domain of CAP, and that case concord between the constituents is regarded as language-specific.
