Abstract
The topic of this study is to analyze the prosodic structure in Spanish, more specificaIly the types of feet in Spanish within the framework of metrical phonology. In the stress system, the internal structure of syIlable is pertinent to determine the stress foot. The syIlable weight is key to analyze the metrical structure, because the metrical structure in Spanish is quantity-sensitive, and the syIlable weight determines the size of the foot, which is fundamental in the prosodic structure of the languages. The prosodic system of Spanish is based on the metrical food. The foot formation has the following steps: form binary left-headed and quantitysensitive foot from right to left; the rightmost foot is more prominent. According to this formation, the foot has a trochaic rhythm and quantity-sensitive structure. The metrical foot in Spanish has two types: one is a bimoraic foot, that is composed of one heavy syIlable or two light syIlables; the other is a superfoot, that is composed of one heavy syl1able and one light syIlable. And in Spanish there ia an expansion of light syIlable to heavy, which is situated at the end of a word and open.
