tough-구문과 비교구문의 영어-한국어 비교 분석

Abstract

문법 이론을 개발하기 위해서 우선적으로 해결해야 할 중요한 문제점 중의 하나가 문장내에서 서로 (무한히) 떨어져 있을 수 있으면서 특별한 관련을 맺 고 있는 두 부분간의 관계를 효과적으로 포착하는 것이다. 영어에서 tough-구 문과 비교구문은 이러한 (무한) 이접성(unbounded discontinuity)"을 보인다 는 의미에서 의문구문이나 관계구문과 비슷하다. 그러나 앞의 구문들은 문장내 의 특정 단어나 구의 존재로 인해 그 구문이 성립되는 반면에 뒤의 구문들은 문장내의 특정 단어와는 무관하게 성립하는 구문이다. 그러므로 tough-구문과 비교구문에서는 무한 이접성의 문제뿐만 아니라 그 특정의 단어가 어떻게 각각 의 구문이 만들어지게 하는지에 대한 문제도 설명되어야 한다.

The purpose of this paper is to present a comparative ana1ysis of the tough- and comparative constructions in English with the corresponding expressions" in Korean. Even though no current approaches provide a satis- factory analysis of these constrctions in English, we have an accumulation of valuable works dealing with them. At least, there is no dispute over their status as constituting unique constructions in English. However, there has not been much research on the corresponding expressions in Korean. Scholars do not agree, for example, even on such a basic issue as whether these expressions form separate constructions or not. In this respect, this study focuses on establishing their syntactic identities.
