Abstract
The argument-structure distributions of predicates in the speech of three Broca-type aphasic patients and one conduction aphasic are compared with both matched controls and each other on the basis of elicited production data. The subjects were shown picture cards, drawings, and video-taped scenes and were asked to describe the events. The results show that Korean aphasic patients do not exhibit any particular difficulties producing predicates with or without an extemal argument. This result confirms the findings in Kim (1998) and contrasts with Kegl's (1995) report on an
English-speaking agrammatic, who showed difficulties producing noncopular unaccusative predicates. on the assumption based on crosslinguistic data that agrammatics lack specific syntactic knowledge for the processing of displaced arguments from their lexically s야cified positions, it is proposed that unaccusatives in Korean do not involve displacement of arguments for Case-theoretic reasons or involve a vacuous movement, if any.
