Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show characteristics of passive sentences with particle eul/leul. In general, it has been thought that the passive sentences in Korean don't have the case marker eul/leul and many papers have claimed that eul/leul appeared in passive sentences is not case marker. However, this view cannot explain the characteristics the passive sentences bring out. This paper proved the construction in question to be dative-verb construction by focusing on eul/leul and ege. According to this view, the passive sentences are classified into pure passive constructions lacking in eul/leul and dative constructions having eul/leul.
