Abstract

This paper deals with the properties of the resultative constructions and presents their event structures. At first, the primary syntactic and semantic properties of the resultative constructions are discussed based on Wechsler (2001)'s event-argument homomorphism model. It is pointed out that semantic restrictions on the resultative predicate are deeply related to lexical semantic properties of main verbs and syntactic form of resultative constructions. Next, Levin and Rappaport Hovav (2002)s event structure model is introduced and then its advantages and disadvantages are argued. . Simple and complex event structures and their problems are discussed. Then a modified new event structure model is presented according to its syntactic and semantic properties with its advantages argued.
