문제해결 토의 활동이 대학생의 창의성에 미치는 효과

Abstract

본 연구에서는 문제해결 토의활동이 대학생의 창의성에 미치는 영향을 확인해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 충남의 C 대학에서 '창의성 개발' 과목을 수강하는 33명의 대학생들을 대상으로 문제해결 토의활동을 한 학기 동안 실시한 후, 통제집단과 비교하여 일상적 창의성 검사와 TTCT 도형검사에서 창의성 향상 정도를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 문제해결 토의활동은 대학생들의 일상적 창의성 향상에 효과적이었으며, 특히 대안적 해결력, 모험적 자유추구, 이타적 자아확신, 탐구적 몰입 등을 향상시켰다. 즉, 교양강좌에서 쉽고 재미있게 접근할 수 있는 문제들을 해결해 나가는 과정에서 이후 일상 생활에서 보다 더 창의적인 사고로 대안을 찾을 수 있는 능력과 자아를 확신하고 탐구하며 몰입하는 성향을 갖게 된 것으로 판단할 수 있다. 둘째, 문제해결 토의활동의 효과를 확인하기 위해 TTCT 도형 검사를 실시한 결과, 창의적인 사고 능력이 유의하게 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 특히 유창성, 독창성, 정교성 및 종결에 대한 저항 등이 향상되었다. 본 연구를 통해서 문제해결 토의활동은 대학생의 창의성을 증진시키는 데 매우 효과적임을 알 수 있으므로 앞으로 대학생을 대상으로 한 교양강좌에서 유용한 교수-학습 방법으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

This study explored the effect of problem solving discussion activities on the improvement of college students' creativity. To do this, it administered a one-semester long session of problem solving discussion activities with 33 college students and then compared them with the control group using the Everyday Creativity Scale and the Torrence Test of Creative Thinking-Figural. The main findings are as follows. First, the problem solving activities were effective on improving college students' everyday creativity. In particular, the improvement was significant in alternative problem solving ability, adventurous pursuit of freedom, and altruistic self-confidence. This implies that students could develop their confidence and trait of creative thinking and ability through a series of processes solving various problems in class. Second, the results of TTCT-Figural showed that students' creativity improved significantly. The improvement was significant especially in fluency, originality, elaboration, and resistance to premature closure. These results suggest that the problem solving activities are very effective in improving college students' creativity and thus can be applied as useful learning and teaching methods for general education courses at college.
