Recently experienced three cases of penetrating
cardiac injuries were reviewed.
The first case was a traumatic interventricular
septal defect confirmed by right heart catheterization.
Systolic murmur with thrill along the left stermal
border, followed by the rapid progression of congestive
heart failure , appeared during his convalescent
period after successful cardiorrhaphy of myocardial
stab wound. The foreign bodies in thorax and heart
was removed by early thoracotomy in the second case
who had introduced three needles into her chest in
an attempt for suicide. And the last case was a
stab wound of left thorax treated by early replacement
of blood volume, closed tube drainage for hemothorax,
and prompt cardiorrhaphy on the left ventricle
successfully.
