홍콩 일반목적 한국어교육에서 동시의 교육적 활용 가능성 탐색

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 홍콩 한국어 학습자를 대상으로 동시 수업을 실시함으로서 해외 일반목적 한국어 초급 학습자에게 동시의 교육적 제재로서의 가능성과 필요성을 검토하는 데에 있다. 동시 수업은 동일한 학습자 집단을 대상으로 두 단계로 나누어 실시하였다. 1차 연구에서는 문화적 보편성을 지닌 동시를 활용하여 수업 전과 후의 학습자 인식 조사를 실시함으로써 동시의 도입 가능성과 도입 시기에 대하여 검토하였다. 2차 영ㄴ구에서는 한국 문화 특성이 담겨 있는 동시를 활용하여 한국어와 한국 문화에 대한 이해력 향상과 동시의 도입 시기에 대한 학습자 의견을 조사하였다. 연구 결과 동시는 학습자의 한국 문화 문식성의 함양, 특히 한국 문화에 대한 이해력 향상에 도움이 되었음을 알 수 있다. 또한 동시는 학습 흥미를 유발할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 학습자의 문학교육에 대한 불안감과 부정적인 고정관념을 감소시키는 데에도 긍정적인 효과를 보였다. 한편 한국어의 문법 능력 차원에서는 초급 학습자들이 동시의 실제적인 문맥을 통하여 어휘와 문장의 이해력 향상에도 유용한 제재임을 알 수 있었다. 종합하면 동시는 학습자의 한국어 문화와 문법에 대한 이해력 향상에 효과적인 제재로서 해외 일반목적 한국어교육에 도입할 필요성이 충분하며, 그 교육적 효과도 비교적 분명하게 드러났다. 다만 도입 시기에 대하여 초급의 어느 시점부터 도입하는 것이 적절한지 추후 연구를 통하여 재검토할 필요가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility and importance of using Korean childrens poems as teaching materials for adult beginner learners of Korean as a Foreign Language (KFL) in Hong Kong. The study consisted of two sample lessons of reading childrens poems were given to a total of 21 students. Data were collected through surveys before and after each lesson and an interview within a short period after the lesson. As predicted, the results suggested reading childrens poems helped the adult learners improve their understanding of Korean culture and lessened their negative attitudes towards literary texts. The characteristics of childrens poems as authentic language materials also showed that poems are a useful pedagogical tool to enhance students grammatical competence and Korean cultural literacy. In summary, this study suggest the use of childrens poems is suitable for teaching Korean culture and grammar to KFL students. The appropriate stage for introducing childrens poems is at the higher beginner level (also known as Level 2).
