- Abstract
This study explores unknown exiled musicians from Europe to Shanghai and Japan in the 1930th, during WWII. Why did they come to East Asia where European music was almost non existing? How could they work as musicians and teachers in Shanghai or Tokyo? These questions will be answered with the primary materials from the German National Archive Berlin, Hamburg or from the Japanese Diplomatic History Archive of the Asian History Material Center. Contrary to existing research this study will focuss the exiled musicians as mediators, not as victims.
