This paper aims to research into the contrapuntal correlation between association and inference in the associative anaphor. To this end, an analysis of collected data is made with the comparison of various types of anaphor which are coreferential, indirect, associative, or inferential. These last three concepts have somewhat similar properties but should not be confused: all indirect anaphora is not associative and the association does not derive the same mental process as the inference. A few findings are summarized as follows. First, its proved that the concepts of indirect, inferential and associative do not show the same value in anaphora phenomenon by being applied to all collected French data. Second, its found that the mental device of association operates in contrapuntal correlation with the mentation of inference in language act. Third, from the two above findings, we need to propose the distinction
between canonical associative anaphora and pseudo-associative inferential anaphora. Therefore we would suggest the Doppler effects: (Ⅰ) the device of association operates in direct proportion to language competence, culture, context, knowledge of world which are shared between interlocutors; (Ⅱ) more prominent is the stereotype of words, bigger than the portion of inference is the one of association, whereas less prominent, more complicated is the former.
