Abstract
One of the most important considerations in designing a test of foreign lauguage proficiency is the purpose for which the test is to be used. Under this assumption, the respective merits and demerits of discrete point test and integrative test are discussed. In Korea, interest in testing listening and speaking abilities has grown remarkably in recent years. In keeping up with this increasing interest, this paper also proposes some criteria that hopefully increase objectivity in evaluating oral proficiency especially in high school English classes.
